Event Report

Comments and anecdotes about the event:
This was a beautiful evening to show the kids the Moon and Saturn. It was a bit challenging to find an observing spot with a view of the ecliptic, but we settled on setting up near the tennis courts. I was unable to transport my telescope the long distance from the parking lot to the event site. Rich Jennings was able to transport his 6" dobsonian telescope to the setup site in a wagon. This saved the event for us; he was the only volunteer that was able to set up his telescope for this event. Some of the time, I operated a large reflector on a pipe mount that one of the parents brought along. This was a very well-attended event, and the hosts provided food and soda for us as well. The Moon was 9 days old and the terminator showed craters and mountains very clearly. Saturn's rings are approaching edge-on soon, so they appeared very thin. Saturn's moon Titan was also visible.
