Event

On April 8th there will be a Total Solar eclipse. The path of totality with pass south of St Louis. You will need to drive east or south from St Louis to reach the path of totality. The Path is about 120 miles wide.

Marcus Cape West Cinema (duration 4m 7s) in Cape Girardeau has given us permission to use a section of their parking lot.
Address: 247 Siemers Dr, Cape Girardeau, MO 63701

This new location is in middle of a big shopping complex, but has a small green space that is far away from traffic flow. We will park and setup in the SE corner of Marcus Cape West Cinema parking lot, here is the exact pin location in Googlemaps

I don't expect Marcus Cape West Cinema to be open (Manager said they were going to stay closed since everyone will be outside) but Lowe's HDW is walking distance and many other places, including another Walmart, nearby for food, drink, etc.

If you travel to Cape Girardeau, MO the duration of totality is about 4minutes long. Cape is just south of the centerline of the eclipse and if you travel further south the duration of totality decreases. The distance from the St Louis Science Center to the Cinema in Cape is 120 miles or about 1h 50m under normal conditions, expect delays and heavy traffic on eclipse morning and even heavier traffic returning to St Louis after the eclipse.

Cape Girardeau, MO
partial eclipse start: 12:41pm CDT
Totality start: 1:58pm CDT
Totality ends: 2:02pm CDT
Partial eclipse ends: 3:17pm CDT

If you travel to down I-55 to Bloomsdale, MO the duration of totality is about 2 minutes long and if you travel further south the duration of totality increases until you reach Jackson. The distance from the St Louis Science Center to the Bloomsdale, MO is 55 miles or about 1h under normal conditions, expect delays and heavy traffic on eclipse morning and even heavier traffic returning to St Louis after the eclipse. Since Bloomsdale is on the northern limit of totality, most ravels back to St Louis will be south of you. If you leave Bloomsdale to return to St Louis right after totality ends, You will be ahead of all the northbound traffic further south.

Bloomsdale:
partial eclipse start: 12:41pm CDT
Totality start: 1:59pm CDT
Totality ends: 2:01pm CDT
Partial eclipse ends: 3:16pm CDT
