John Dobson (1915-2014) was known as a telescope maker and innovator. During his lifetime, John developed easy to build telescopes, made from low-cost materials. Many of today’s commercial telescopes are of the Dobsonian design. The simplicity of design, makes a Dobsonian telescope easier to setup and use compared to more sophisticated telescopes.
Dobsonian telescopes are very durable and they don’t wear out or break easily. You may have a Dobsonian stored away in a closet or garage.
