Event

The Wabash Valley Astronomical Society (WVAS) will host a free public comet viewing activity from 8:00-9:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19.  The event will be in the parking lot of the Faith Presbyterian Church at 3318 State Road 26 W, in rural West Lafayette.  Comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS) is the brightest comet visible in years.  We will observe it by naked eye, binoculars, and telescopically.  If you have binoculars, please bring them.  Tripods are recommended if you'd like to take photographs with your camera.  Attendees may come and go as desired.  Note that restrooms will not be available on-site.  Information about WVAS can be found at https://wvastro.org.

Event Report

Comments and anecdotes about the event:
We used 15x70 binoculars on a parallelogram mount plus an 8" Newtonian telescope to show the comet to attendees. One of our members used a refractor telescope and a camera and transmitted time exposures to an iPad for easy viewing by the public.
