The Lunar Far Side: The Side Never Seen from Earth

You got to love Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon because you can't help but wonder, "What is the dark side of the moon?" The dark side of the moon refers to whatever hemisphere of the moon is not being lit. Then there is the far side of the moon, which is the side of the moon we can't see from the Earth, but gets just as much sunlight as the side we see from Earth.

One of the many thing's that is exciting about the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbit is that it is giving us new information about the far side. Did you know that the far side has many more craters than the near side?

Get out and celebrate International Observe the Moon Night on Saturday, September 18, 2010 & learn more about the moon!
