New Outreach Award Pins Available for Order: Make Sure Your Club has Logged Your Events to Qualify
New NSN Outreach Award Pins are here! NSN member clubs whose members performed & logged five (5) or more outreach events in 2016 qualify to receive pins, which this year celebrate the upcoming 2017 solar eclipse over North America in a stylish Art Deco fashion. Reward your volunteers for their hard work and celebrate bringing astronomy to the public!

Every club that qualifies will automatically receive three (3) free pins. These free pins will be shipped to your club's preferred shipping address as listed in your clubs' NSN setup. Additional pins can be ordered for $2.00 each after completing our order form on Surveymonkey. PayPal, credit cards, and checks are all accepted. Order award pins for your club's outreach on Surveymonkey at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/nsnpins2017 Please note: Survey is now closed. Thank you!

Pins will begin shipment to qualified clubs in January. Please let us know if you have time constraints. Pins must be ordered by January 31, 2017, and all pins will be shipped by mid-February 2017. Quantities are limited!

We will also have certificates that you can print to accompany these pins. You can download them from the NSN after you log in from our resource page, or download the PDF directly here:  https://nightsky.jpl.nasa.gov/docs/nsncertificate2017reader.pdf
We recommend saving this certificate to your computer and opening it with the free Adobe Acrobat Reader in case you experience any issues customizing it for your members.

The first page is the default certificate which works best with most color printers and paper types. The second page is a black and white version of the certificate, optimized for black and white printing on most types of paper. The third page is a borderless, color version of the certificate, perfect for printing on your preferred brand and design of certificate paper.

Receive Eclipse Outreach Materials for Entering Upcoming Events for 2017!

Post your club's future events onto the 2017 NSN calendar to ensure that your club qualifies for a kit of free eclipse outreach goodies! Every club that enters ten (10) or more events for 2017 on their NSN calendar before January 31, 2017 will receive a packet of eclipse goodies including activities, handouts, and much more to share with your club and your audiences, both on and off the path.

Posting recurring events like monthly meetings is easy with the "Duplicate This Event" tab. If you want to know more about posting and logging events, or have questions about using the website, take a look at our updated Club Coordinator Manual. In 2017 these events are going to be widely publicized by NASA and beyond, so you'll want your club's events on the list. Be found by new audiences!

What you see here are just a few samples of the materials found inside your club's goodie box, including the yardstick eclipse demo, sample lithographs, cards and much, much more. This photo was taken in the early stages of our development - we now have many more updated materials for your club's outreach! The box will include handouts found on NASA's eclipse site: https://eclipse2017.nasa.gov/downloadables

New Additional to the NSN Website for Coordinator Use

We have added a few new features, and more are in development. Currently live on the site:

Updated Coordinator Manual
We have updated the manual for using many of the features of the Night Sky Network. We hope it helps you all out, both those of you that are new to managing your club's NSN presence, and those of you who have been here since the beginning! You can check it out here: https://nightsky.jpl.nasa.gov/docs/CoordinatorManual2016Book.pdf

A ToolKit Management System
You can find out which NSN ToolKits your club has received, and keep track of their location using the new ToolKit management tool.  Log in to the site and look on the right hand side under "Night Sky Network Services". Click on the link View My Clubs ToolKits to see the ToolKits your club has in hand. Coordinators can edit the comments section to keep up with their locations. Remember to mention using these resources while posting your event logs to continue to earn more toolkits and other goodies as well as letting NASA know their mission science is being seen by the pubic!

Schedule for Upcoming NSN Webinars
A handy page featuring a list of all upcoming webinars and links to past recordings is now available to members under "Night Sky Network Services" after login. We are just starting to get our new webinar speakers scheduled for 2017 so keep your eyes on this space!

Next year will bring many exciting new features and fixes for the website, especially with regards to the NSN calendar, many of which we are currently testing (more on that early next year!). 2017 is looking great-and we look forward to many more years of helping you in your mission to bring astronomy to the public.

Keep up all of your amazing work, stay warm this holiday season, and may you all enjoy clear skies!
