CAAS will be hosting a Star Party at Lake Sylvia State Park on Saturday February 21, 2026 from 6:30-10:00 PM
There will be presentations at the Park Lodge, at 6:00 PM about what to see tonight including the Winter Milky Way, bright Jupiter and its moons, the Orion Nebula and And Andromeda Galaxy. This year offers a great opportunity to view and enjoy the Perseid Meteor Shower. There wil also be a program about the upcoming total lunar eclipse on March 3rd.
If the weather forecast calls for cloudy skies on the 21st, the Star Party will be held on Friday February 20th. The telescpes will be at the southeast corner of the lake, indicated by the arrow labeled Observing Location on the attached map of Lake Sylvia.
Dress warmer than you think you should, and bring a red or amber color flashlight to find your way around. White light flashlights can have a temporary red film put over them. The red tail light tape from auto supply stores is perfect for covering flashlights and cell phone flashlights.
This map also indicates where you can park to attend the Star Party. Lake Sylvia has darker skies than our CAAS River Ridge Observatory (RRO).
