The Tulare Astronomical Association is hosting it's Winter Public Open House & Star Party on January 24, 2026 (weather permitting) from 3-8 PM at the Arthur Pursell Observatory (APO). Tours of the APO's 12.5 inch telescope in our observatory dome & our multifunction classroom.  There will also be members telescopes setup for the public to view the sun, moon, & planets. 

There is a restroom at our facility. Bring water and a chair if you want to sit.

The cost is $5.00 per person over the age of 12.

TAA Arthur Pursell Observatory (APO)

The Arthur Pursell Observatory

The Tulare Astronomical Association owns it’s own observatory. The observatory was built in 1967 on donated property. It is located 7 miles southwest of the city of Tulare at 9242 Avenue 184 Tulare, CA 93274. All materials and labor were also donated by members of the community. The observatory has a 12′ 6″ motorized Ash Dome. The dome was donated by the Tulare Lions Club.
