Title: A Revolution in 3D-Printed Stargazing with Robert Asumendi
Hello everyone,
Please join us on Wednesday, August 26th, 2026, for a truly unique presentation from an innovator who has reimagined what a telescope can be. We are delighted to welcome Robert Asumendi, the founder of Analog Sky, a company dedicated to providing innovative astronomical tools.
About Our Speaker:
Robert Asumendi is an Oregon-based innovator and amateur astronomer who turned a personal challenge into a groundbreaking mission. Suffering from severe astigmatism, he found traditional telescopes difficult to use. Rather than giving up, he used his graphic design background and learned CAD (Computer-Aided Design) to create something entirely new. The result? A revolutionary line of binocular telescopes constructed almost entirely of 3D-printed parts.
What is Analog Sky?
Analog Sky is a company that empowers astronomers to build their own high-quality, innovative instruments. Their mission is to democratize stargazing through a unique, crowd-sourced, 3D-printed telescope system. By sharing designs and selling kits, Analog Sky is helping people create deep, memorable connections with the night sky.
A Few of Their Innovations:
Robert has designed a range of products that blend cutting-edge technology with simple, intuitive use:
-
Analog Sky Drifter: A unique 8" binocular telescope that offers the light-gathering ability of a 12" traditional scope, with a generous 2.4-degree field of view.
-
Magic: A compact, box-style binocular telescope that combines the best features of binoculars and telescopes for an incredibly portable and accessible observing experience.
-
Bebop & Heart: A minimalist 50mm binocular and a more advanced 80mm kit that allow users to customize their views with interchangeable eyepieces and filters.
What to Expect:
In this talk, Robert will share his fascinating journey from frustrated observer to telescope designer. He'll discuss how 3D printing is revolutionizing amateur astronomy, the challenges of designing binocular telescopes, and his mission to "bring back the magic" to night sky observing for everyone.
This is a rare chance to learn from an innovator who is building a global community of "Magicmakers". Whether you're a tech enthusiast, a DIY builder, or just love a good origin story, you won't want to miss this!
Clear skies (and happy building)!
