Sooner or later the parks will reopen and premier stargazing locations will draw hundreds and thousands of night sky enthusiasts. That's also when BEAS will be invited to help facilitate these astronomy gatherings.
We want to be as ready as we can be.
Former Bryce Canyon National Park Interpretive Ranger, Kevin Poe will share lessons learned and best practices developed running one of the National Park Services (NPS) most ective public astronomy endeavors in the National Park Service (NPS). Kevin founded the tradition of the Dark Ranger® in 2004 and has since taken that accreditation process with him as part of his private astronomy tourism business, Dark Ranger Telescope Tours. Now he and his extended family of amateur astronomers are invited to coordinate and work astronomy festival around the NPS. This means he has experience working both sides of these collaborations. He knows how frustrating it can be working with "parkies" who mix-up M76 and M57. And he also knows why "parkies" cringe when they hear astronomers use the phrase "star party."
To get started, Poe has suggested a pre-meeting home work assignment. Set aside 45 minutes of quiet time where you can focus on this video and take notes and record your comments. Take notes, make suggestions and feel free to disagree, but be warned. Kevin Poe is the "DARK RANGER"! : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xngn8FHJAKU
The monthly general meeting is as always free and open to the public.
New member and guests are invited to use the ZOOM features to ask questions and meet some of the existing members. The meeting begins at 630pm with BEAS social time and at 7:00pm with BEAS introduction and the evening speaker's, presentation.
