Event

Astronomy Night - Take advantage of December's early sunsets and darkness! Visit with members of the Central Arkansas Astronomical Society (CAAS) at the Central Arkansas Library System's (CALS) Rooker Library in the Otter Creek Community as they give an early evening sky program. The presentation begins with an indoor look at "What's Up in the Sky," followed by stepping outside to see the brightest stars and planets and looking at the moon through a telescope. Learn about the loaner telescope the library has. You can check out a telescope just like a book. We'll get finished early so you won't be out too late on a school night.

Instructions for the Public:

The Oley E. Rooker Library in southwest Little Rock’s Otter Creek Community is open until 8 pm on Thursday nights. Central Arkansas Astronomical Society club members will host a short program indoors showing what to look for in the December sky. Next, we will go over the features of the library's loaner Orion Star blast tabletop telescope so you can look at the moon with this easy to use Newtonian reflector.  Outside sky viewing is weather dependent. If the sky is clear, we'll go outside to the parking lot and see what we can see with our eyes and also use the volunteers' telescopes. The moon will be bright, and so will Venus and Saturn. If you have binoculars, bring them to use. Dress warm for this casual come and go event.
