Come join us as a visitor or a member at FWAS' monthly General Meeting, where we gather to meet new people in the hobby, experience a presentation by an expert on an astronomy-related topic, learn about upcoming celestial events and get to know a constellation, hear about the club's public outreach efforts, and discuss current club business.  For members who wish to join online, an invitation with a link to the interactive Zoom call will be sent out via email one week prior to the meeting.

For our main presentation at August 18th's Fort Worth Astronomical Society meeting, we're excited to welcome Dr. Joe Masiero, former Deputy Principal Investigator for the Near Earth Object Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer, otherwise known as NEOWISE, and Science Lead for the upcoming NEO Surveyor.

The NEOWISE name pops up here and there in the public eye, holding credit for the occasional comet discovery, but what's behind the name?  Near-Earth asteroids provide us the opportunity to better understand the formation and evolution of the Solar system, but they also pose a hazard to the Earth should they be on an impacting trajectory.  In his talk, Searching for Near Earth Objects, Dr. Masiero will discuss the search for NEOs, and how we will use the next-generation infrared space telescope NEO Surveyor to take a census of our nearest neighbors and reveal any potential hazards they pose to Earth.
