Event Report

Comments and anecdotes about the event:
We went out to the observatory put away some toolkits. After visiting with a club member for a few minutes as we were getting ready to leave, a couple of women pulled up and we started talking about the 'Star of Bethlehem'. It was just before sunset and the three of us demonstrated what is happening in our solar system for the alignment to occur. We walked it out in the parking lot where the Earth, Saturn, Jupiter, and the Sun would be located for this alignment, like using the Exploring the Solar System chart or banner, but using the parking lot. The guests thought this was a cool concept and they understood it. We talked how far they are and how they shine with reflective light, and how long that light took to reach our eyes. They were simply amazed. It was fun to share this with them. One of the club members dragged out one of the club's telescope and pointed it at the conjunction after it appeared in the sky. Saturn was above Jupiter. It was pretty cool.
