Event

The monthly meeting of the members of the Lima Astronomical Society, followed by our monthly program.

Amateur astronomer, Roxanne Kamin, will present this month's program entitled:

Get published: Using your telescope, images, and data in contributing to the science of astronomy.
You can observe objects, You can image objects.  How about using your telescope to prove that something exists by not observing the object itself, but rather by capturing an image of its shadow?  Join us as we talk about how you can use your own telescope to contribute images, and light curve data to researchers around the world.

As an avid amateur astronomer and fly fishermen, Roxanne has viewed night skies from both the Northern and Southern hemispheres, including four trips to Australia. Retired from IBM and residing near Hershey, she is active in measuring asteroids with the Southwest Research Institute  along with the International Occultation Timing Association and the European Space Agency (LESIA).  She has twice measured the atmosphere of Pluto and has co-authored several papers regarding asteroid measurements along with being featured on NPR. In her spare time she works with Second Light Observatory Service in restoring scholastic and non-profit observatories.

Roxanne can be found most clear nights observing at Cherry Springs, the Naylor Observatory, or simply from her home.

We encourage you to attend as many meetings as your schedule allows, as your insights and contributions are invaluable to shaping our Society's future.  Whether it's sharing your observing experiences, volunteering for outreach events, or simply offering your perspective on Society decisions, every contribution makes a difference.  Every member's voice matters, and your participation helps to create a vibrant and supportive community.

Meetings begin promptly at 8:00pm, and last approximately one hour or less, followed by the monthly program.

Please sign in to the visitor log when you arrive.

Lima Astro meetings and programs are open to the public!  Please join us if you have an interest in astronomy and want to know more about our organization.  Note that public observing occurs on the last Friday of each month, and is a separate event from monthly meetings and programs.
