Schoonover Observatory opens at 4:00pm for programming and public observing (weather dependent). During the daylight hours, we will plan to do some solar observing, where sunspots may be visible. We will also demonstrate how Venus can observed during the day!
Just past sunset we will try and catch a glimpse of Comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS) during the short window it will be visible before setting below the horizon. The last time this comet was seen from Earth was 80,000 years ago! The Moon will be in the waxing gibbous phase just past first quarter, and this can be an excellent time for some lunar observing. Planets Saturn, Neptune, and Uranus will also be in the sky this evening, and we'll plan to take a look at those as well.
If observing is not possible, we will still be hosting programming in meeting room, can provide guidance and instructions on using telescopes, answer any questions about the Society, and more!
