Kevin Schindler is the Historian and Public Information Officer at Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, Arizona, where he has worked for 29 years. He shares Lowell’s long history of research and exploration through writing and public presentations. He writes articles for a variety of publications and contributes a bi-weekly astronomy column, “View from Mars Hill”, for the Arizona Daily Sun newspaper.  He has also written seven books, including Pluto and Lowell Observatory.

Fun fact: Schindler has both a fossil crab and asteroid named after him. Book signing during program.

2026 Astronomy presentations & night sky observing are on the 2nd Saturday of each month (April - November). The only Arizona State Park with a permanent observatory.

Hours

• Summer hrs. 7 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. MST April, May, June, July August

• Winter hrs. 6 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. MST September, October, November

• The first hour is a presentation in the park visitor center

• The remaining 90 minutes will be observations through the Moore 14" SCT telescope
