Join us for the April 2025 monthly meeting of the Las Vegas Astronomical Society at the Dale Etheridge Planetarium. This event is free and open to the public. (Just show up!) We start at 7:30.

This month, guest presenter Rich Dollish of the Amateur Astronomer's Association of Pittsburgh ("3ap") will join us remotely to talk about the Astronomy for Disabled Veterans program, done through a partnership between 3ap, the Knights of Columbus, Carnegie Mellon University, and the VA Hospital in Pittsburgh.

U.S. Veterans account for 20% of all suicides. The A4DV project was started with the hopes of reducing that number by giving the residents of the VA someone to talk to, something to think about, and to show them something that not many people get to experience. And help them realize that in the vastness of the universe, their life is a gift, and the possibilities, like the stars, are too numerous to count.

Rich Dollish has been a member of the Amateur Astronomers Association of Pittsburgh since 2015. A data analyst by trade with a lovely, very patient wife and disobedient hound dog. Rich enjoys doing public outreach, coordinates star parties at local libraries and community centers, and is the primary operator of the James R. Surman observatory located at the HJ Heinz VA Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA.

--Get there a little early to snag a seat.
--Parking is free in either of the two lots next to the Planetarium.
--And here's how to find it:
1) Navigate/map to "CSN Planetarium Parking".
2) Park in that lot, or the larger lot just before it. Both are accessible from the road after you turn off of East Cheyenne Ave. Parking is free.
3) Next to both parking lots is a drop-off car loop that is near the Planetarium entrance, which is just behind it. You'll see a large letter "S" on a building; go just to the right of the "S" building. Go into the doors that say "SOUTH ENTRANCE" in big letters.
4) You will see a bench seat; the Planetarium door is just a few steps further. Come on in and take any open theater seat.
