Volunteers, please contact me for important setup and free entry instructions by DM or at keith.caceres@lvastronomy.com
The Rangers of Lake Mead National Recreation Area and the Las Vegas Astronomical Society invite you to spend an evening stargazing at Lake Mead's Boulder Beach Picnic Area. Come out under the starry skies by the lake and see the wonders of the night sky, including the Moon, the Orion Nebula, and Jupiter. If we're lucky, we'll also view Comet 12P/Pons-Brooks, which is the same class of comet as Halley's Comet and only visits the Earth every 70 years!
Former LVAS president Geary Keilman will be giving a presentation on the night sky in the Water Safety Center building (see map) at 6:30 PM. He'll also be giving a green laser pointer tour of the night sky at 8:30 PM.
PLEASE NOTE: Regular park entrance fees for Lake Mead apply for attendees (typically $25 per car) until the fee collection folks leave for the evening. I don't know
the exact time they leave, but it's probably around dark (sunset is at 6:50 PM). Entry is *FREE* after they leave. NO FEES for LVAS volunteer astronomers (contact me for free volunteer entry instructions at email above). Fee Info:
