At 8:00 pm on 24 August, the doors will be open to the Martz-Kohl Observatory for Saturn Saturday! Guests are welcome to come tour the observatory, view, and learn about Saturn. Weather permitting, guests will have an opportunity to view Saturn through the Kohl 20-inch telescope or the 12-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope, located on the platform of the roll-off roof area of the observatory. The roll-off roof was designed as an area of the observatory to enable members and the public to bring in their own telescopes or utilize the smaller telescopes provided by observatory, to view the night sky.
The observatory is located at 176 Robbin Hill Rd., Frewsburg, NY. The Martz-Kohl Observatory is an all-volunteer, non-profit association [501(c)3] and does not charge for admission. A non-member donation of $5.00 per adult and $2.00 per child or student is appreciated.
The Martz-Kohl Observatory houses one of the largest public robotic telescopes in the Northeastern United States. On open observatory nights, the public is welcome to come and tour the facility. If the evening sky is clear, the telescopes will be used to view the celestial sphere. The observatory can be contacted at (716) 569-3689. NOTE: Although the classroom is heated, the observatories are not. Dress warmly because you will be on the next to the highest point in Chautauqua County.
