Comments and anecdotes about the event:
Two longtime supporters of the Odyssey Astronomy Club and Ten-Acre Observatory made the trip up from Texas to the TAO for a visit and a viewing session, just ahead of a thunderstorm. As we awaited nightfall, we viewed the Venus/Jupiter conjunction. Using the TAO's 13-inch telescope, we also viewed the Great Globular Cluster in Hercules (M13), the Spider Globular Cluster in the constellation of Scorpius (M4), the Ring Nebula in the constellation of Lyra, and the senary system in the handle of the Big Dipper, Mizar (which contains four stars) and Alcor (which contains two stars) in the constellation of Ursa Major. A senary system is a star family containing six stars. Clouds ahead of the thunderstorm moved in, cutting the viewing session short.
