Event Report

Comments and anecdotes about the event:
Mel shared a video about the Gaia Space Observatory. This is an ESA program that mapped the Milky Way Galaxy in incredible 3 dimensional detail and has discovered, among other things, exoplanets. Twelve years after launch, Gaia suffered a couple of common technical failures due to exposure to the hazards of spaceflight. It completed its main mission objectives in 2025 and now exists in a "retirement" orbit. However, processing of the vast amount of data collected by the observatory is expected to continue for several years. This is a short, but interesting blog article about Gaia if you're interested: https://www.mos.org/article/farewell-gaia
