Event Report

Comments and anecdotes about the event:
The 29 visitors were very enthusiastic about the IOMN event. Several adults and children were very familiar with the Summer Triangle. George and I pointed this out to the group, and several kids were excited to learn the star names: Vega, Deneb, and Altair. The Moon was 1st Quarter and the sky was clear. We were fortunate to have good weather, as the daylight clouds would not dissipate. However, the evening sky was very clear from our vantage at Cape Henry. There was one telescope brought by one visitor, a 70mm Refractor. George showed the dad and little girl how to align the finderscope and advised the use of low power eyepieces to find objects. I showed one new club member, Steve, how to set up his refractor and align the finder to the telescope. George and I each brought a green laser pointer to point out the interesting objects tonight including the location of Saturn. This was a very beautiful target, too. Five BBAA members brought telescopes: Jeff Goldstein, George Reynolds, Jonathan Longman, Sandy Paxson, and Dave Fiore. New members Scott and Pam Burson came later and got to participate as well.
